Algoma's Belle Isle Inn is again, like Shanty Days, within walking distance of the festivities. This will be the 7th annual event that, just like Algoma Wisconsin's Shanty Days, gets our great little community "hoppin with excitement." Here's some info: Admission is only $6. There will be a grape stomp, specialty foods and wine tasting all day, great music from several bands and a fine art show. A really cool thing will be the Farm Market Kitchen presenting the breakfast smorgasbord "Salute to Sausages" where some of the best Wisconsin Sausage Makers will share their specialties along with Buttermilk and Pumpkin Pancakes. A few of the sponsors are VonStiehl Winery, Algoma Chamber of Commerce and Algoma Main Street Program.

Take a Lighthouse Tour with Me

I Love lighthouses. Growing up in Door County, Sturgeon Bay to be exact, I remember seeing the Sherwood Point Lighthouse from my Nana and Papa's cottage when I was little girl. Sometimes my dad would take us out in the boat and we would anchor right out in front of the grand structure, up close and personal, towering above the little boat. On a dark night, the beacon always let you know which way was home and which way was safe.

Today my parents have their beautiful home on the property that once was my grandparents, and whenever I visit, I look out at the lighthouse, and I get those same feelings. Strength, power and guidance. When my husband and I were married at my parents home three years ago, our pictures have the Sherwood Point Lighthouse in the background. I LOVE lighthouses. I try to take tours of the lighthouses as often as I can. Because Sherwood Point lighthouse is so close to my heart, and next to the Algoma lighthouse, is the next closest lighthouse to the Belle Isle Inn I would like to start my tour with SPLH. I hope to take a fall trip to the lighthouses but am going to have surgery around that time and may not be able to do it this year. Well, there is always Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall, and there will be another year. But for now... enjoy.
